The black and white mountain landscape is by Lian Zhen. He crumpled his shuan paper then used sumi ink and painted this landscape. Later he showed us how to stretch a painting by using a cellulose based wallpaper adhesive. The frogs and lily pads is a lovely painting, my photo doesn't do it justice. It was painted on sized shuan that has glitter on the paper. The fish are my "Rasta" fish I did as practice..learning to use the Chinese brushes.

A pic with me and Mr. Zhen.."We are friends now." he said. His version of unfinished horse watercolor painting and my unfinished horse watercolor painting..I messed up and today I proceeded to finish it and ruin it! No photo yet of that. But the neat thing is we used only 3 colors...amazing what you can get with 3 colors.

Fun trip to Sheridan, Wyoming and Lian Zhen watercolor workshop. My sister flew to Utah from Ohio to drive 10 hours to Sheridan with me! That was a treat. We borrowed my husbands' Yaris since she can't drive my manual transmission Pathfinder. We packed up a tent and air mattresses and drove to Wyoming. Took 2 days so we could have lots of time to talk. We haven't been together in 2 years. Weds, was the first day of the workshop. Mr. Zhen is very professional and students spent 2 days learning the basics of chinese painting with Maries' chinese paint and ink. The next 2 days were to be his version of western watercolor painting. I had to leave on Sat. missing the 4th day because it was a 10 hr. drive and my sisters' plane left early Sunday morning.
To be honest the actual road trip was what I needed more than the workshop. But that said we had a wonderful experience with the very friendly Sheridan residents. The students were all women my age or older and welcoming. ( weird though that several of them talked all through the demos!).
So I have taken several pics and will show a few a day. I am showing my favorite although unfinished chinese painting on mature Shuan paper. Also the view outside our one night stay in Casper Wyoming of the traveling hamburger people..strange sights on the road!
